Ridge Road Volunteer Fire Department — a tight-knit team of neighbors answering the call so Brewton can breathe easier. No salary. No shift clock. Just commitment.
Ridge Road Volunteer Fire Department isn't a government agency with a budget and a payroll. It's a group of teachers, mechanics, farmers, and retirees who grab their gear when the siren wails — and don't come home until the call is cleared.
Based at 39 Whynot Road in Brewton, we've stood watch over Escambia County for over six decades. Our station covers residential neighborhoods, rural roads, and the stretches of highway where one bad decision can become a tragedy in seconds.
Every member trains on their own time. Every response is unpaid. The only reward is knowing someone in this community went home safe because neighbors showed up.
Our crew handles a wide range of emergencies and community programs — because protecting a town means more than one kind of call.
Houses, outbuildings, mobile homes — when flames threaten a structure, our volunteers are the first on scene with training and equipment ready to go.
Cardiac events, injuries, breathing problems — our volunteers carry first-response medical training and respond before ambulances arrive.
Highway collisions, vehicle fires, entrapment situations — we respond to Escambia County roads around the clock with extrication tools and scene safety.
We visit homes, businesses, and schools to identify hazards before they become emergencies — from faulty heaters to blocked exits to smoke alarm gaps.
Fire drills at local schools, CPR workshops, and public safety demos at Escambia County events — we teach what could save a life before you need us.
When someone goes missing in Escambia County's wooded areas or rural terrain, our volunteers assist with coordinated ground search operations.
Ridge Road Volunteer Fire Department exists because people in Brewton decided their community deserved protection — and then showed up to do the work.
You don't need a firefighting background to make a difference. We train everyone from scratch. What we need is commitment: the willingness to attend drills, answer calls when summoned, and invest a few hours a month in a cause bigger than yourself.
Not ready to put on the gear? Every station needs support beyond the response line. Equipment donations, fundraising help, and community outreach volunteers keep the lights on and the trucks running.
"We don't wait for a paycheck to answer the phone. We wait for the call — because somewhere out there, someone we know needs us."
